Project

In the fall of 2018, we received an AARP Livable Communities Grant to demonstrate a redesigned Oak Street corridor. In working with the Crossroads Community Association, Bird scooter company, and the KCMO Department of Public Works, we removed a travel lane to create a 10' protected mobility lane to provide a safe place for people on bicycles, scooters, skateboards, and roller blades to ride. We also instantly reduced automobile speeds by changing the stop lights to blinking red in order to function as 4 way stops. Without removing any on street parking spaces, we were able able to transform this dangerous, high speed corridor into a calm complete street that allowed for all modes of travel to safely coexist.
